I guess its worth noting that whilst there are that many connections... there is not likely to be that many phones. A lot teenagers these days have a sim card for each carrier and given that there are more connections than people... there must be a hell of a lot of people owning a work phone and a separate phone for personal calls...

Hi Kiwieric, We are not saying we are using them or will use them.
We are simply exploring what QR codes are, and what they would or wouldn't be good for. A lot of people are interested in them at the moment, and we see them not being used as effectively as they could be, so this is a study in providing people information and tips surrounding uses of QR codes.
I find the current studies and debates around QR codes interesting to see their potential uses. I see that they are still perceived as, and being used as a gimmick at the moment… we will see if people find a good use for them and integrate them effectively, however that may be, or whather they become only applicable for some purposes…

Hi Kate, I agree that QR codes are often not being used as effectively as they could be... I think the example you describe is a good example of ineffective use of QR codes... I find the current studies and debates around QR codes interesting to see their potential uses, however it is still perceived and being used as a gimmick at the moment... we will see if people find a good use for them and integrate them effectively or weather they become only applicable for some people and purposes...

Hello Eric! I think QR codes are generally used very poorly here in NZ. The Marketing Association included one in a recent DM. After taking the time to get your phone out and scan it (what if you also had to download a reader?!) all you got was a unique code to enter on their website. Why not just print the code?

This is a topic I have discussed many times with various people around the business who have suggested we use a no-reply for eDMs. Their reasoning being that customer inquiries should come through the "appropriate channels", being our 0800 number or contact form on the website.

My response is always the same. If we are communicating to our customers using the channel then it is an appropriate channel for them to communicate with us.
